Welcome to Phone Paid
The Phone Paid services industry has been an integral part of the Irish telecommunication services industry since 1995.
In that year the industry, which was dominated by Bord Telecom Eireann, established a self-funded regulatory regime entitled Regtel.
Since then, the industory has experienced:
- The industry has grown from one single network operator to 16 operators including 4 mobile networks;
- There are now many hundreds of regulated services with an annual growth in the region of 300 new services per year;
- The industry is now regulated, not only by Regtel, but by several regulatory bodies including Comreg, the Data Protection Commissioner, the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland and The National Consumer Agency. The industry is one of the most strictly regulated and supervised industry sectors in the country;
- The industry has grown in size to estimated domestic earnings of €100 million in 2008;
- The industry has now become a leading knowledge economy based exporter and employer, employing thousands in high end jobs and exporting services and software at a globally competitive level.
Our aim is to promote effective communications and engagement throughout the industry to achieve an environment within which member businesses can flourish.
With these changes in mind, several leading industry participants established the Irish Phone Paid Services Association in June 2008.
